- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them into bite-sized balls.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil the pretzel bites for 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For the cheese dip, combine cheddar cheese, cream cheese, milk, and garlic powder in a saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth.
- Serve the pretzel bites warm with cheese dip.
Notes
- For a festive touch, use food coloring to dye the cheese dip red and blue.
- These pretzel bites can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
