Description

Cinnamon Apple Pie à la Mode is a delicious dessert featuring a flaky crust filled with spiced apples and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Roll out half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate.
  5. In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour into the crust and dot with butter.
  6. Roll out the remaining dough and place over the filling. Seal and cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
  8. Let cool before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples.
  • Make sure to let the pie cool before serving to allow the filling to set.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
