ABOUT

Hi, and welcome to Home Cooking with Lila Monroe—my heart, my kitchen, and my digital home at www.dishrcp.com! I’m Lila Monroe, a homegrown Texas girl with a cast iron skillet in one hand and a big ol’ appetite for real, soulful food in the other. Whether you’re here for weeknight dinner inspiration, Sunday comfort meals, or a few good laughs from my kitchen fails—I’m thrilled you stopped by.

Lila Monroe Cooking in Her Texas Kitchen

I was born and raised in Austin, where the kitchen was always the loudest, warmest room in the house. My grandma used to say, “If you’re hungry, come sit near the stove,” and I guess I never moved away. Home Cooking with Lila Monroe started as a notebook full of scribbled recipes and grew into this beautiful online space where I share dishes made with love, mess, and a pinch of sass.

I never trained as a chef, and honestly? That’s the magic. My food is made for real-life home cooks—busy moms, weekend foodies, and anyone who finds comfort in a bubbling pot or a warm biscuit. I’ve burned my share of bread, forgotten to set timers, and once confused salt for sugar in a batch of cornbread (don’t do it). But every flop taught me something. And every success? That’s a flavor I never forget.

So, what can you expect from my blog at DishRCP.com? You’ll find a delicious mix of:

  • Comfort food classics with a Southern twist
  • Quick and easy dinner ideas for busy weeknights
  • One-pan and slow cooker meals that save time and dishes
  • Holiday and party recipes that wow your guests without breaking a sweat
  • Homemade desserts that hit the sweet spot (including plenty of chocolate!)
  • And my favorite: everyday recipes that turn simple ingredients into something special

But this blog isn’t just about food—it’s about feeling good in your kitchen. I write like I’m chatting with a friend, not hosting a fancy cooking show. I want you to feel like you can actually make these recipes, even if you’ve never touched a rolling pin or don’t know the difference between baking soda and powder (don’t worry, I’ll explain it).

From Austin roots to your dinner table—this is home cooking with heart, sass, and a whole lotta flavor.

On DishRCP, I also share personal stories behind the dishes—where they came from, how they flopped, and what made them unforgettable. Because food is tied to memories, laughter, and sometimes even a little healing.

I write the way I cook—with feeling. I’ll tell you how something smells, the sound it makes, or the way your family’s gonna light up when they take that first bite. Cooking is a story, and every recipe is a new chapter. That’s what Home Cooking with Lila Monroe is all about: connecting through flavor, failing and trying again, and making food that sticks with you—in the best way.

Outside the kitchen, I’m probably hunting down the best local BBQ spots, chasing my two dogs around the backyard, or teaching my nieces how to flip pancakes without flinging them across the room (we’re still working on that one). Life’s messy. Kitchens are messier. But that’s where the fun is.

If you’re someone who believes that food is more than fuel—that it’s connection, celebration, and sometimes pure therapy—then you’re in the right place. I created DishRCP to be a space where we can all grow as cooks, share what we love, and not be afraid to mess up a little.

So go ahead and explore the recipes, share your own stories, and let’s cook something amazing together. Thank you for being part of my journey—and welcome to Home Cooking with Lila Monroe.
