- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups celery, chopped
- 2 cups onion, chopped
- 4 cups bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter and sauté the celery and onion until soft.
- In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables, bread crumbs, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Add chicken broth gradually until the mixture is moist but not soggy.
- Stuff the turkey with the bread mixture and truss the legs.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and cover with foil.
- Roast in the preheated oven for about 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use homemade bread crumbs.
- Feel free to add your favorite herbs to the stuffing.
- Ensure the turkey is fully thawed before cooking.
