Description

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into rounds.
  3. In a large pot, combine the brown sugar, butter, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  4. Add the sweet potatoes to the pot and stir to coat them in the syrup.
  5. Transfer the sweet potatoes and syrup to a baking dish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, basting occasionally with the syrup.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of orange juice to the syrup.
  • These yams can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
