Description

A delicious and flaky dessert made with layers of phyllo dough, filled with chopped pistachios and sweetened with honey syrup.


Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz)
  • 2 cups of shelled pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped pistachios with cinnamon.
  3. Layer half of the phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  4. Spread the pistachio mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
  5. Layer the remaining phyllo dough on top, again brushing each layer with butter.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, and honey together for about 10 minutes.
  9. Once the baklava is done, pour the syrup over it while it’s still hot.
  10. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
  • You can substitute pistachios with walnuts or almonds if desired.
  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of rose water to the syrup.
