Description
A delicious and flaky dessert made with layers of phyllo dough, filled with chopped pistachios and sweetened with honey syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz)
- 2 cups of shelled pistachios, finely chopped
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped pistachios with cinnamon.
- Layer half of the phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Spread the pistachio mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
- Layer the remaining phyllo dough on top, again brushing each layer with butter.
- Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
- Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
- While baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, and honey together for about 10 minutes.
- Once the baklava is done, pour the syrup over it while it’s still hot.
- Let it cool before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
- You can substitute pistachios with walnuts or almonds if desired.
- For a richer flavor, add a splash of rose water to the syrup.
