Mouthwatering Char Siu is a delicious Chinese BBQ pork recipe that features tender, flavorful meat marinated in a sweet and savory sauce.

- 2 lbs pork shoulder
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine
- 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, food coloring, garlic, and black pepper.
- Place the pork shoulder in a resealable bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on a baking rack over a baking sheet.
- Bake the pork for 30 minutes, basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the pork is caramelized and cooked through.
- Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve with steamed rice and vegetables.
Notes
- For best results, marinate the pork overnight.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey according to your taste.
- Char Siu can be served hot or cold.
