Mouthwatering Char Siu is a delicious Chinese BBQ pork recipe that features tender, flavorful meat marinated in a sweet and savory sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, food coloring, garlic, and black pepper.
  2. Place the pork shoulder in a resealable bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on a baking rack over a baking sheet.
  5. Bake the pork for 30 minutes, basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the pork is caramelized and cooked through.
  7. Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables.

Notes

  • For best results, marinate the pork overnight.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey according to your taste.
