Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of day-old bread
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of whiskey
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Butter the bread slices on one side and layer them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  6. For the whiskey sauce, combine whiskey and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  7. Serve the pudding warm with the whiskey sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

  • Use stale bread for better absorption of the custard.
  • Feel free to add raisins or currants for extra flavor.
