Description

A simple and classic recipe for Grandma’s Capirotada, a traditional Mexican bread pudding.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups of bolillo or French bread, cubed
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup of shredded coconut (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine milk, water, and brown sugar. Heat until the sugar dissolves.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the cubed bread, raisins, pecans, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the milk mixture over the bread mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally, top with shredded coconut.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of rum or brandy.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
