- 200g macaroni
- 50g butter
- 50g all-purpose flour
- 500ml milk
- 200g cheddar cheese, grated
- 100g mozzarella cheese, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Breadcrumbs for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking until the mixture is smooth and thickened.
- Stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce.
- Transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs if desired, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add cooked bacon or vegetables.
- Can be made ahead and baked just before serving.
