  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the short ribs on all sides until browned.
  2. Transfer the short ribs to the crockpot.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened.
  4. Pour in beef broth, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, and stir in brown sugar, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, thyme, and bay leaf.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then pour it over the short ribs in the crockpot.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender and falls off the bone.
  7. Remove the short ribs and strain the sauce if desired. Serve the ribs with the sauce drizzled on top.
