- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth; let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- In another bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the cream cheese mixture, and sprinkle blueberries on top.
- Roll the dough tightly and slice it in half lengthwise.
- Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Let it rise for another 30 minutes, then preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown; let cool before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter babka, add more sugar to the cream cheese mixture.
- Ensure the blueberries are evenly distributed to avoid sogginess.
- This babka can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
