Description

A traditional recipe for making authentic Turkish Delight, also known as Lokum, featuring a chewy texture and a variety of flavors.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon rosewater or orange blossom water
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and lemon juice with 1 cup of water until smooth.
  3. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the sugar syrup, stirring constantly.
  4. Add cream of tartar and continue to cook on low heat, stirring until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in rosewater or orange blossom water and nuts if using.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased pan and let it cool for several hours or overnight.
  7. Once set, dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares.

Notes

  • For a different flavor, you can add food coloring or other flavor extracts.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
